Funding the Future of Women's Health with Gitcoin
Let’s use web3 tools to fund women’s health! 🪩
You might have heard of our landmark Reproductive Health Report!
This was made possible by Gitcoin, an amazing organization funding public goods through web3.
To put it in simple terms, through donations from big players in the ecosystem they create a quadratic funding matching pool. What does this mean?? If you donate $5, through algorithmic magic it can become as much as $500 dollars.
Your donation can be matched up to 100x. Imagine the impact that you could have on women's health research. 🤩
How can you get involved so we fund more women’s health education tools?! 💁♀️
We are excited to announce that we are on the Gitcoin Beta DeSci track to fund the second volume of our Reproductive Health Report!
Option A: You can go to our Grant Application Page and donate there directly.
Please note: This time Gitcoin really focused on making their page more web3-focused and the process is not easy. You can check out this video for more details or this chart for a step-by-step guide.
Option B: Pledge with your credit card $10, $25 or more…and we will do the process for you!
Members of our community will submit the donations to Gitcoin on your behalf! And we will report back the total transactions collected and submitted so you see the Quadratic funding magic at work!!
Let’s use web2 tools to make the most of web3!
Your support will fund:
Giving a platform to predominantly female researchers
Building collective knowledge of PCOS and Endometriosis, heavily underfunded areas of research
Writers & Editors
Public speaker series to engage scientists and researchers with the community
Media and online initiatives
Academic conferences fees
Free access to all
Please note the deadline is May 9th!
So how does Gitcoin help support these initiatives?
The Gitcoin Grants Beta Round uses the Quadratic Funding (QF) distribution mechanism. With this, the more individual contributors we get, the better.
What is quadratic funding?
Quadratic Funding is a method of funding public goods that gives more weight to small donations and less weight to large donations, using a quadratic formula. It aims to encourage more people to contribute and reduce the influence of large donors by matching donations from a funding pool. Matching scores are assigned based on the quadratic formula and funding is allocated to each project proportionally to its total matching score. For more information on this mechanism, check out WTF is QF?
What are Endometriosis and PCOS?
Endometriosis is a prevalent but often misunderstood health condition affecting millions of women globally. It occurs when tissue resembling the lining of the uterus, called endometrium, grows outside the uterus. This out-of-place tissue can lead to intense pain, inflammation, and fertility challenges.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), is a hormonal disorder affecting many women worldwide. It is one of the most common endocrine disorders among women of reproductive age, affecting an estimated 1 in 10 women. Despite its prevalence, PCOS is often underdiagnosed and misunderstood, leading to confusion and frustration for those who suffer from it.
These conditions can affect women from a very early age and impact their fertility.
About our last round!
With the funding in our last round, we collected an amazing $12,000 that funded our first report. we were able to publish 1 public good: our Reproductive Health Report.
All researchers, editors, and designers were compensated - unlike traditional funding. AthenaDAO’s team donated their time and coordination.
This consisted of 24 pages reviewing the state of reproductive biology with contributions from integral researchers in the field.
Additionally, we were able to host 1 seminar, 4 panels and onboard, multiple researchers into the ecosystem.
We do thank you all for your continuous support for AthenaDAO. Join our movement! 🤍🪩
